[Javascript] Re: Standards

Very few of us will live that long. I began doing a functional diff
between 5.5 and 6, but gave up after finding about 380+ differences,
with no end in sight. Some of them are obvious bug patches, but a
lot of these widgets comprise added functionality.

One reason I'm so "down" on Netscape at present is that such a huge
chunk of it doesn't comply with HTML4.0 and other comparable international
standards. Hey -- I'm as much a sucker for a nifty proprietary tweak as
the next guy, but having to write messes of adaptive code for each app
based on platform, browser, browser-rev, plugins, etc. is starting to
get old. Face it, I'm lazy.

I REALLY don't want just one browser vendor -- the pressure to develop
progressive standards will vanish at that point, and the "vendor" (dare
I say M$soft?) will be able to lead us about by the short hairs.

Amen! That's why I want standards compliance. Otherwise, we need not
only only 1 browser vendor, but only 1 version of the browser. Has
anyone cataloged the differences between ie 5, 5.5, and 6?
