[Javascript] Newbie inquiring for a nice book

I cannot recommend highly enough David Flanagan's "JavaScript: The
Definitive Guide", published by O'Reilly.  It's commonly known as "The Rhino
Book".

I use that in tandem with (also published by O'Reilly) "Dynamic HTML: The
Definitive Reference" by Danny Goodman.

Both excellent, excellent books.
