Alternatively, what about explaining why they're donating to djc at MEO. i.e.:

 - djc is responsible (via hosting situation) for payment of bandwidth, blah
blah blah. currently, he covers that cost via personal working arrangements
and own funds. so essentially, a donation is minimising that cost, etc.

Something like that anyway.
