Question - why do we need to own the boxes?

Surely the important thing is having the service, which doesn't depend
on owning the boxes outright.

What's more, if we *don't* own the boxes, and we have a properly managed
service c/o wherever, then part of the SLA should be appropriate
hardware replacements, which is another outgoing of funds we can lose.
