Go for it, dude :-)

i'm going for it. call me crazy, but whether this is a job for theForum
(now) or Finance, i nominate, elect and confirm myself to sign evolt.org up
for a google AdSense account.

However.

i decided to do a "dry run", while awaiting the discussion here to die down,
by signing up one of my pet sites www.perldoc.net for AdSense. perldoc.net
is basically just a manual page viewer for all the perl modules installed on
my web hosting account at pair Networks.

those pompous bastards at google declined my application! they said they do
not allow "sites that contain predominately copyrighted material" into the
AdSense program as the reason for not approving me, and pointed me to their
published policies (which seem to me to preclude warez sites, not open
source perl documentation, but whatever).

so i googled this (a bit ironic, that) and my research led me to some
discussions that google AdSense really bases their approvals on a quick
review of the site to see if it meets their relatively high "content
threshold", i.e. sites that provide real, original content, as opposed to
repurposed, republished perl docs, for instance (no matter how stylishly
done, apparently!). this makes sense, to me. they want their quality ads
on quality pages where people go to read quality content, not computer
generated crap like perldoc.net ...or evolt's browser archive, perhaps.

so i i will apply for a google AdSense account, but i won't use
http://browsers.evolt.org as the "site" on the application. i'll submit the
application for all of www.evolt.org -- this way they'll see the original
"high content threshold" weo articles, and approve us without question.
we're then free to place the adsense ads on any parts of the evolt we deem
appropriate. their published policies state this explicitly -- we don't
*have* to put their ads on the home page -- though at some point we might
decide to, and in this way, we'll be free to do that, too.

okay?

All in favor: Say Nothing.
All opposed: Say Nay!
