Features? or columns? (methinks maybe a language diff...)

I can think of it on the old SF chronicle columns: Herb Caen, Art Hoppe, 
etc.  And Oregonian columnists, too.  These are regular pieces where the 
personality and voice of an individual author is the primary reason why 
people read (as opposed to the info, most of which is opinion, 
ramblings, musings..)

Ok then, we don't HAVE to have a landscape, but if we want to go any 
bigger than 90 pixels (which is pretty small) we do have to.  So we are 
subliminally encouraged to go landscape. Plus, even if we don't 
re-proportion images, enough other sites are not beyond squishing 
uploaded images into a particular proportion that would further 
encourage a person to go with the (sorta weird) 180x90 proportion we 
have set.
