Evolt archives aren't working for me right now but there was a good 
week of discussion about "footer credits" starting around 6/18.

Basically, you should decide what it's worth to you to include/not 
include such credits, and include that in part of the contract 
negotiations.  You might also make it clear if you intend to link to 
them as part of your "portfolio."

I try to remind my clients that links work both ways.  If, when they 
take over the site, they are able to maintain it while keeping the 
integrity of the design intact, I will keep them on my portfolio.

So, for example, The Seventh Generation Fund, a non-profit group, can 
possibly benefit from the spillover traffic on seastorm.com, and vice 
versa.  In fact, either one of us might snag a good contact from an 
audience that wouldn't normally go looking for our sites to begin 
with.

The web works in mysterious ways, her miracles to perform.  The heart 
of it is linking.  We are all interconnected.  etc.
