As far as I've heard here in Sweden, the suggested .eu domain would make it 
possible to have "a new, commercially oriented, top domain for businesses 
within the EU". Which means straight competition aimed at the .com domain 
that's now frequently used by companies.

No serious suggestions that it would replace the existing top domains, 
though. (Bad reporter, baaad reporter. Go back in your cage and stop 
writing stupid stuff).
