somewhat off topic

apparently there's a line of dialog in the movie "the patriot" where mel
says he sees "no advantage in replacing the tyranny of one man 5,000
kilometers away for the tyranny of 3,000 men two kilometers away" -- at
least, according to the globe and mail's version of a new york times movie
review

the globe, canada's "national" newspaper, does this all the time,
substituting a metric unit for imperial (and isn't there some irony in that
name, eh? seems only the americans are holding on to the imperial
system...)

at least the globe has smartened up over the years, and no longer says
things like "the airplane was cruising at an altitude of approximately
9,146 meters"

anyhow, the next day they published a scathing letter (i'll say this for
the globe, they also routinely publish critical letters)
