try either opening the DOC inside of Acrobat or hit the "Create PDF" button
in Word - it will pop up the Distiller properties box (or something like
that) which will give you teh option for Optimizing between Screen & Print
(and something else I think).  That might make a difference.

also - when viewing the PDF, is it zoomed in to 157% or something wacky?
What happens if you zoom to 100% - does it look okay?  

finally - perhaps post the PDF somewhere for us to check out....
