i think that's a fabulous question... it's as valid as "why use 
XHTML"...

my reason for switching to HTML4 was two-fold:
- the improved accessibility features, especially with <form>s...
- the fact that IE4 and IE5 offered support for most of the 
accessibility features...

i guess i'm waiting for the same 'eureka' with XHTML to show that it 
truly serves the user better...
