[thelist] Is 8pt too small on a Mac?

I'm working on a site with text navigation. I want to use 8pt, but I
understand that things look smaller on the Mac.  Is 8pt okay, or must I wade
into using relative sizes?

I have seen a nifty javascript to use different style sheets (with differing
font sizes) upon detection of os/browser at www.pbs.org.  But I'd rather not
go that route, if I need not.
