What REALLY bugs me is that the word "impact" is used as a verb all over
the bloody place. E.g., "E-business has impacted companies in a way that
nothing else ever has."

Darn it, "Impact" is a noun, *not* a verb. Something can have an impact,
but it cannot be "impacted".

<tip type="English test">

Go take the Written English online exam at Brainbench.com
It's not as easy as you think, especially the comprehension bit.
Try and beat 4.75 out of 5 ;)

And while you're there, take the ASP exam too. It ain't horribly tough, but
challenging enough to be used as a preliminary scanning tool in job
interviews.
