and you're forgetting the possibility that the people in Sweden can
configure NT/SQL Server better than you can configure linux/mySQL. Its a two
way street, remember that.

well, it is, and with MS's .NET platform and ASP+ coming out soon, this is
all moot. but as you are very clearly against MS-based solutions, I wonder
why this is even a discussion we're having, but I have an ace up my sleeve
...

then why are you asking for comparisons again?

and here is my ace: integration. Sure, go ahead and use linux and php and
mySQL --did you know mySQL doesn't do replication? So what happens when the
main office wants to keep your db in sync with theirs? What if you want to
get at resources up there?

What if you need to lean on them for some support?

This is a larger IT management issue, and personal opinions have little to
do with it. I'd love to run more *nux stuff here at work, but alas, I can
not because I'd be the only one who'd have enough expertise in running it.
Don't know about you, but I like it when someone else can take a phone call
at 4am.

like someone else already said, a cross-browser solution has *nothing* to do
with the architecture producing the code. The browser is a client, and I'll
look at your site with MS IE all day long if I want to ;)
