:) My suspicion is that the problem is in MSFTP, considering you tried multiple different clients and still have problems. This would seem to lend credence to the old comedic line, "An FTP server ain't an FTP server ain't an FTP server. Nyuk, nyuk."

I agree with this post below - go with a third-party solution. Unless there's something seriously wrong, such as a firewall on his end or your end, or one of the machines' network setup is configured incorrectly, that should fix it.

If he has a firewall, play around with the Passive FTP settings. That may be causing issues. (Firewalls may make us safe, but they can be a pain sometimes :)
