So, since this was a rather shameless plug, here's a good tip:

A very good way to downspec clients (e.g. tell them they can't have a 
certain cool feature) is to say:
"We'd love to do this, but that would mean jeopardizing your deadline. But 
the decision is really up to you."
It's simple, and I've found it very effective. mention deadline and clients 
tend to freeze.
