Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

Um not the virii which are scripting in the damn email. It's
not as idiotic as opening attachments. Given that MS had
to release a damn patch plugging a damn hole the size
of a bus, it's not as much of a 'you must be stupid to get
infected' thing. The virii which have affected me this year
have *all* been Outlook specific.

Also, I've been working in environments where I don't have
that kind of control over my email client. The day of the LoveBug,
they had to shut down all mail and web access - given that that was
100% of my tools, I just went home :-)

So yeah, I have Eudora now with all scripting (and HTML display)
turned off at home.

Cheers
Martin

martin,

: And the more general nastiness IE inflicts, the
: more people will want an alternative - I think this
: year's spate of Outlook-affecting virii did wonders
: for Eudora's user base. It certainly made me remove
: Outlook from my home Windows machines.

fwiw, getting infected with a virus via email is *much* more about user
error (and/or naivety) and not properly configuring security settings than
it is about the specific email client. additionally, alot of the virii that
"went public" this past year have also affected eudora as well.
