Plus, if you live out of London and can get a main-line train in
(Cambridge is good...) to somewhere close to your place of
work, you might find you get a shorter commute time.

A friend of mine lives out in Enfield (30 quid taxi ride late at night
with quiet roads), and he can be Covent Garden in 30 mins if the
connections work.

Whilst I agree that London is expensive, if your willing to travel to live
here in the first place, then traveling an hour or a bit longer will enable
to commute from the rest of the south England.

Thats how I do it
