James, thank you for setting me straight on that.  I think I had good
intention, just spoke out of the wrong side of my butt.  (I was in a fog
after working with CF for too long, and in ColdFusion the two are indeed
identical.)

I do believe that the internal representation of all variables in JS is a
string, but there must be a supplemental flag that js uses to identify to
which type of variable at evaluates, hence the results of your test.

Looks like I have more reading to do...
