Which comes down to:
Experience is A Good Thing. Gaining it now will reap rewards in the
future, even if you don't get paid well at the moment.

I spent around 2 years freelancing time where I earned almost nothing
(actually made losses - my dear then girlfriend (now wife) supported me),
but learned *stacks*. Believe me, it pays off long term. If you can learn
while still bringing in a living wage, that's even better.

make sure that before you call yourself a sysadmin or a dba, that
you've actually done the job and know what it entails...  i keep
resumes on file, but when somebody says that he/she is an HTML
expert (for instance), but doesn't even know about the W3C,
valdiation, or what DTD to use, that resume goes to the circular
file...
