Information about browser support:

The current version of the QuickTime plugin supports PNG, although I don't
know to what extent, nor do I know how long this support has existed. If
support has been longstanding, PNG support on the Mac OS may be widespread.

I suppose its possible to detect the browser using JavaScript and write in a
different IMG source based on that data. I dunno if it's really worth the
effort, though.
