[thelist] why story server sucks

ok well it only really sucks if you care about really acheiving things but,

here is why it sucks. Ready? This is mind-blowing stuff. (this oughta keep
the list busy for a while)

Cause almost nobody (corporations) is able to implement it properly. I am,
of course, simply re-stating the well-known maxim (a la .martin) about
re-engineering work flows.

This is only my opinion, of course. The problem, I believe, is that Story
Server is damn expensive (before you hire programmers) so, almost by
definition, it is bought by huge companies who have that kind of money. They
also tend to be the kind of management dinosaurs where the higher you go,
the less able is the staff.

They don't listen to the people who know what they are doing. The people who
know what they're doing generally have neither the time nor the inclination
to re-engineer the corporation. Equals = flop.

Of course, if you are a contractor on Story Server rates and you know what
you are doing, it doesn't suck at all, does it? As long as you're happy to
sit their typing and being paid and keep out of the way of management,
you're laughing.

Just don't try to properly implement the full capability of a large-scale
development environment (sorry, I mean E-business Application Platform™).

Funny how Vignette's own site has a product matrix which doesn't link to the
actual product details.

Anyone wanna create the first CMS/Engineering shock troops? We can wear big
boots and say things like, "I'm here to chew me some bubble-gum and kick me
some ass and I'm all outta gum." or some similarly mis-quoted line from a
film...
