Sure enough, that started the server and all is fine. Thanks!

I've owed this tip for ages... old hat for most of you, I'm afraid:

<tip type="Windows ME - based Server for Local Testing">

I like to use Server Side Includes on my sites. I don't like having to
upload to the server just to see changes in my footers, navigation, or
whatever. This week I decided to get my new Dell working the way I like
it.  I went to
http://www.imatix.com/ and downloaded the Xitami server. I need .SHTML
files to run, and the Xitami server doesn't work with them natively, but
when I read the docs, I found that having Perl on board would make SSI
work, so off I went to http://www.perl.com/ which lead me to a Windows
version supplied by ActiveState: http://www.activestate.com/

I downloaded Perl and ran the install program, rebooted, and there was
great rejoicing in Albemarle.
