[thelist] Info for High School Students

I'm actually working on something similar myself. Not only for high school
students, but a general introduction to web development, even going so far
as to assume little or no knowledge of creating and naming files, etc.

If they specifically asked for "professional" then the key word (which lots
of high schoolers hate) is COMMITMENT.

Yes it's easy to get Frontpage or Dreamweaver or whatever and jump right
in. But it's the wrong approach, and unfortunately one that a lot of people
seem to think is satisfactory. I've heard of a "Web Development" class
locally which was actually more of a "How to Use Frontpage" class.

In my cynical fashion, I plan to start my first class with a couple
software boxes on the desk. Frontpage, Dreamweaver, the like. My first
words, "So you want to learn to develop websites? This is how you get
started..." *drop both boxes into the trashcan*

Without wanting to scare them away too young, it's important to stress the
need for real commitment to web design, or whatever else they do, if
they're doing it *professionally*
