dirty little windows secret:

anything over about 500 ttf fonts will turn your machine into a 60 minute
starter..

start windows with a log file and when you finally boot up

look at it in wordpad, it's just too big for notepad.

c:\bootlog.txt

done?
know you know what all those .vxd and dlls do.
it ain't pretty

my current is 150k of text

as soon as the boot process begins to load fonts is when you get the black
screen as windows begins the additional fonts.
it has already loaded the system fonts.

the amount of time it takes to load the additional fonts and load failures
usually around 7-800, If they are True Type fonts and not something somebody
hacked together and renamed .ttf.
Otherwise the process will start a lot earlier and will add to boot up time.

worked on a machine that took 2 hours to boot, but there were 5000 fonts on
it.

too many fonts will kill your machine.

put them in a separate directory and use a font viewer to pick and choose.
install only the ones you need and un-install when you are done.

if you are on a windows 98 machine you are re-booting 4 times a day anyhow
:)
