thelist,

I know how to restrict access to a directory in Apache, but I had NFI
how to do it in IIS4. So, I found the process and thought I'd pass it
on:

<tip>
summarized from:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q248/0/43.ASP

1. Using the Internet Service Manager (Microsoft Management Console),
open the Internet Information Server (IIS) snap-in and select your
Web site.

2. Right-click the Web site, virtual directory, or file to which you
wish to restrict access. Click Properties to display the property
sheet for that item.

3. Select the appropriate Directory Security or File Security
property page. Under IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions, click
Edit.

4. Now you have two choices. Either deny certain IPs or grant only
certain IPs.

4a. Granting an IP. In the IP Address and Domain Name
Restrictions dialog box, select the Denied Access option. Then add
the IP address which should be granted access to the *exceptions*
list.

4b. Denying an IP. In the IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions
dialog box, select the Granted Access option. Then add the IP
addresses which should be denied access to the exceptions list.
