As we've been talking about this in 2 different
threads, it might be instructive to take a read of
Adrian's writeup on the evolt HTML:

Each page's content is merged into a template
(using ColdFusion) and the look is controlled by
CSS. There's pretty good separation - so it's a
piece of cake to:
1) Change the layout (hit the site with a PDA)
    by stuffing a different template
2) Change the style (have a look at the screenshots
   in the 'Down the Road' section of that article) by
   linking in a separate stylesheet.

And each of those can be done at runtime.
