well, you could fake it

okay, that's not always going to work, especially in a field like math,
where special symbols *are* important

and it's not the *right* solution, which would be to find the right magic
words to say to netscape like what you dug up,

  <!ENTITY % HTMLsymbol PUBLIC "-//W3C//ENTITIES Symbols//EN//HTML">

except that doesn't work, does it

but there are two ways that i can think of to fake it

1. use a small gif, maybe 14 pix high to cover most font size situations
(remember, the user is supposed to be able to resize her fonts)

2. use other symbols instead (i know, i know, not always possible) such
as  !=  or  <>  for "not equals"
