Have you considered any of the tutorial style books on ColdFusion.
There are plenty out there, One in particular that I have been working with
just walked me thru cftable and table. The pros and cons of both and how
to work effectively.

I would highly recommend:
Build ColdFusion 5.0 web applications by B. Forta
You sound like you have a vB background so you could probably just
thumb thru the material.
