[thelist] Certification...[OT]

The company I work for has just hired a guy who claims to be an MCW --
Microsoft Certified Webmaster.
He seems to know very little about web development, but that can often be
the case with certifications.
Still, I was curious so I checked the Microsoft website. 0 results on a
search for "Microsoft Certified Webmaster"
I did the same on three of the major search engines. 0 results. (except
Google which gave one result))

Could this guy be so dumb as to claim he has a certification that does not
even exist? Did it ever exist.

TIA

Are we missing the boat here? Potential customers/employers just barely
(sometimes) know enough to ask for a portfolio when it comes to web
developers. What they do ask for is certification...those little important
looking pieces of paper that seem to carry some weight. Believe me, my BA in
Advanced Basket Weaving (computer science minor), while it is impressive to
those potential clients/employers looking for a degree, does nothing for me
in the web development category.

There is quite a bit of experience within this group, some have MSCE certs
in specific areas, some have pieces of paper indicating participation in a
seminar, forum, conference, or what have you. But most (I'd venture) have no
form of 'proof' that they can develop for the web. (Membership in thelist is
like attending web development university though.) Evolt University...has a
nice ring to it.

Just the various disciplines mentioned in a single day's worth of posts!

Should we, as the cognitive elite of the web, perhaps look into accepting
the social responsibility of doing something about this?

Looking for a quick and snazzy way of including
graphics/pictures/screenshots within your documentation (you do do
documentation, don't you?)? Try SnagIt from http://www.techsmith.com

This little utility has multiple setup functions, is quick, uses a keystroke
combo to activate (I leave SnagIt running and minimized, when I need to
capture a portion of the screen it's ready torock.) the program, and comes
in handy for all sorts of work. Incidentally TechSmith has a lot of tools
that you may find handy.
