The only time not having certification has clearly hurt me was in
loosing a bid despite the fact that our bid was clearly the best
(someone slid the other bids to me). The situation was this: nobody
at the client knew jack about database applications except their
hired gun computer tech guy, who had his MSCE, a watery understanding
of "boolean" and knew that ColdFusion was "like a limited version of
ASP."

I dunno ... certification - I've answered the question and still got
the project ... I think most situations are going to be:

a. See certification as a big plus and be so full of Certified Idiots
that you'd run screaming.

b. Be impressed by an answer like "Technology changes so quickly I
don't have time to prove what I know, especially when the technology
I was going to be tested on will be outdated by the time
certification arrives."

c. Be able to evaluate you without looking for letters after your name.

PS - regarding the story from above, the time line was to have the
application built and deployed in March ... as of this Monday, they
haven't seen one stitch of anything.
