It all depends on what you are going to do with it. (It's just like
asking what type of car you should buy).

Some questions you can ask yourself:
1) do I want ease of use?
2) do I want to 'show off'?
3) do I want stability?
4) do I want security?

When 1) and 2) are important, you will be happy with Red Hat, Suse
or Mandrake.

When 3) and 4) are important, you will probably be happy with
Debian Linux or a BSD-variant (which isn't Linux).
