Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

Hi Folks

I did a wee bit of work yesterday on an image drop box.

The idea is that when I'm away, my wife (she of the 'no web
dev experience) will be able to take pics of our baby (7
weeks to go) with a digicam, drop the files on a webserver
and have the site build a page around them.

Here's my current state of test:
http://www.easyweb.co.uk/pics/dropbox/

The script grabs a file listing of the appropriate directory,
ignoring everything except *.jpg and *.jpeg, sizes each
image in px using the Image::Magick perl module, and
builds the basic HTML for the images.

Current further developments I'll look at this weekend (or
not if I don't get time) are:
1) Changing the page build from an exec SSI to a separate
script which builds a flat file. Including this will be less overhead
   at run time.
2) When the update script is run, sending me (and anyone else
who's registered for it) an email to notify me
3) Auto-sensing if the images have thumbnails and building a click-
through to the main image as on the rest of my photo pages

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Naturally, all this will get written up for the evolt site at some point.

Oh, fwiw I'm using Perl5 with Apache/FreeBSD

Cheers
Martin
