want you are looking is probably CuteFTP (PRO). CuteFTP uses a technique
called "Smart KeepAlive", i. e. it sends after a certain idle time commands
of your choice to the ftp server to force its responds. You see, there is
no need to send dummy files.

DISCLAIMER: I am only a content user of those clients; I am in no way
