Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

Another (related) difference is that intranet sites are primarily
used by 'expert' users - people who use the intranet every damn day.

So your emphasis will be much more strongly skewed from new
users to expert ones. You do of course have to get the users *into*
the system to start with...

Also, on an intranet, the number of content contributors is much closer
to the number of users (although if you're considering the alternative
to be certain .coms, maybe not *grin*).

Cheers
Martin

Subject: RE: [thelist] intranet design

From what I can see there is one fundamental difference between designing
for the web, and designing intranets: On the web your goal is usually to
keep users on your site as long as possible. On an intranet it is usually
to
keep access time down the necessary minimum... let them find what they are
looking for and get back to work. Obviously its more complex than this,
but
I think this issue is going to have enormous impact on your front end
graphics and design..
