:Subject: [thelist] Getting started in consulting
:
:G'day honourable list members.
:
:Despite these bleak times, I have chucked a big job at a web solutions
:company (I was the UX dept. head) to go solo and start a one-man
:consulting
:business.
:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~//~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
I would still keep the day job, however, if you want to go in full time, I
would recommend you have at least 3 months of your salary saved up, or you
could see how you work them side by side, and then leave when you @ least
have enough to match what you are making.

:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~//~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
:Since this is the first time I've done this, I've read several books and
:online resources on the subject. However, the best guide is always the
:experience of one's peers. With that in mind, I was wondering if
:any of you
:nice people who are also consultants would like to share any words of
:wisdom with me. What has your experience taught you?
:
:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~//~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
The other thing, is that you are the **boss**, and well income fluctuates so
be prepared for that. Other than that, when things get established, it's
worth your while.

:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~//~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
:I would be forever grateful.
:
:Regards,
:

And most importantly, :-) stay on this list, the "honourable members" ensure
that everyone is up to scratch with anything. Very important in any field.

Good luck in your endeavour,
