True you can, but - to be *really* picky! - it throws more work to the 
browser's rendering engine to stretch an image, and unless cached, is 
one more hit to the server. Plus why not use a more standard friendly 
option?

The other advantage of using the DIV method is that if you have a number 
of pages using a "spacer" you can define the style in a external style 
sheet, and quickly adjust or get ride of it.
