um, using <> doesn't keep URLs for breaking from me (Pegasus 
mail)... this is true for many other mail clients...

it's up to your mail client to recognize multi-line URLs... people 
sending mail who have mail clients that allow a certain kind of 
control can experiment with not wrapping the text for that message 
at a set character width...
