Heh heh. Very funny.

However, this points back to a classic engineer's argument.

Back in the day, engineer-types laughed at the Macintosh because there was
no way for the end user to get into the guts of the system; everything was
hidden by the GUI layer. (AppleScript helps, but it doesn't provide the
same level of access that you could get with DOS or PRODOS.

Conversely, I think this has a lot to do with why so many Web developers
(including and especially Yours Truly) hold such contempt for IIS.

Windows is easier to learn because you don't have as much to learn.

You also don't have the same level of control over the system, and the
system itself is harder to scale.

Try maintaining a IIS-served, DB-driven site with nothing more than FTP
access, and you'll understand why I'm such a fan of *x.

To be honest, if the site you're building isn't horribly complicated the
times you'll need more than filesystem-management skills on a properly
configured *x server are few in number... because Apache does a good job
of ensuring that the various tools you'll need to keep the site running
are compartmentalized.

"Oh!" (giggles) "That was it exactly!"
