Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

Sorry Mark, there isn't.

And even where you *can* do a reverse DNS and get the host's
location, remember that all AOL users appear to be in Virginia...

Two things you can do:
1) If it's language-specific filtering you need, then you can use content
negotiation (Apache will do this for you very sweetly)
2) If users register, then use their country of registration info, if
you've
   got permission to do so.

Cheers
Martin

Subject: [thelist] Custom content filtering using IP address

I'm using PHP on my site and want to make a content filter based on the
national location of the visitor. I'd like to use the IP address of the
visitor to detect where they are - is there a structure to the IP
network so that, for example, 195.xxx.xxx.xxx is Switzerland and so on?
