Thanks, Vic. Appreciate the advice.

It's possible that I didn't have the latest update from McAfee. I think I
did, but ..... human error!

I've always used their online version with no problem, and happily so after
reading about your experience with the boxed version! I too have Win98.

The reason I initially went with McAfee was that a Windows Tech Support
person told me a long time ago of the problems Win98 was having with the
Norton virus scanning software (crashes, etc.). (This was while you could
still call Win Tech Support without being limited in the number of calls you
could make.) Good ole days. I've stuck with McAfee ever since. Now, I don't
feel so comfortable. We'll see.

------- My Comments ------
Glad I could be of some help. I invariably go to the Symantec site for
cleanup info when I'm about to tackle a new virus on someones machine. They
always seem to be on top of things, their cleaning info is always accurate
and thorough, and often, they will have a downloadable free tool developed
that will aid in the virus removal.

About the Win Tech Support advice...I wouldn't question whether Symantec had
a problem with some of their earlier AV software. I can say for sure (from
personal experience) that earlier versions of Norton Utilities (Crash Guard,
etc!) were buggy, and caused system problems....some machines.

I've used NAV since version 5.0, and have had no problems with it....Win 95,
Win 98SE, or Win 2k. The computer shop I work in became a NAV distributor
last year, based on my experience with the product, and my advice. We have
yet to experience any problems with the software on any of the machines we
have installed it on....beginning with NAV 2001, and now NAV 2002.

I do welcome any additional comments/questions from anyone, but at this
point in time, I really believe we should take this subject offlist here.
My email is vicwooten at eaglewebservices.com. Given enough interest, I will
set up a forum for discussion on one of my websites.
