Same in the UK, but many people volunteer it on the CV (not the
same as an application form).

If you're using it as a sales tool (ie to convince an overseas employer
that it's going to be relatively easy to relocate you), then fine, use it,
but they can't force it out of you if you don't want to give it.

Woo creepy! In the US, it's illegal to ask a potential hire about their
marital status, their age, or if/how many children.
