well, you have to know your audience. for example, let's say on your
website, your average  revenue is $300,000. so that 1 percent on mac ie4.5
is worth $3,000. since css pages are generally smaller and easier to
maintain, you have to look at your bandwidth and maintenance costs. if say,
your average page was 25k before css and 12k after, you have to see how much
you're now saving on bandwidth charges.

page maintenance costs are harder to calculate, imho, but this is the
direction i would go. . .if i found that i was saving more than the $3k on
bandwidth charges & maintenance was much easier, i'd be sniffing for mac
ie4.5 and politely posting a redirect suggesting they take the 15 mins. to
upgrade.

it doesn't make sense to support the planet *if you're losing money doing
it*, esp. in this economy. . .
