[thelist] help! UI naming/language conventions

Hello, newbie to the list, first time posting, I hope
someone can help me :)

I have been ordered to create a "naming and
abbreviations conventions guide" for an online brokers
management app, with standard column headers like
Date,Amount, Description etc as well as more unusual
ones like Type/Check, Price/Entry and other industry
specific terms.

I am NOT an editor, I'm a web developer, and this is
clearly outside my jurisdiction, but times are tough,
and so is my boss and he aint gonna hire a real editor
to do this.

SO: my question is, does anyone know of any online
resources of standard naming conventions for such
apps? Standard abbreviations in particular? Any help
anyone can provide would be VERY appreciated as I'm
definitely a little out of my territory on this. And
just to clarify, I'm talking about the UI language
usage, not in the DB.
