The Tim Perdue articles Noah mentioned are really benchmarks, not
comparisons, and they don't appear to have been all that balanced. He's
obviously far more experienced with PostGreSQL than MySQL, which explains
(AFAICS) the results.

The MySQL team are quite open about the limitations of their product in
comparison to PostGreSQL. A summary of which is available here:
