I'll second or third the vote for mutt.  I've been using it for about a year
and I haven't looked back since.  My whole combination is an amalgamation of
fetchmail[-ssl]/procmail/mutt.

Mutt itself is infinitely configurable, and you will spend a lot of time
with the learning curve but it is well worth it.

In my opinion mutt is to email what vim is to editors.  Powerful,
configurable, and extremely fast.
