[thelist] Problem only with NN6 on the Mac

If anyone has a moment, I'm wondering if you could check out a problem
I'm having with a page that validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. It's a
page that still depends heavily on tables for layout, but it's a bit of
an experiment to see how far I can take a fairly traditional layout
technique and still stay within the rules of validation.

Anyway, I've checked it on Windows in IE5.5, IE6, NN4.7, NN6.21, and
Opera 6 and on a Mac in IE5, NN4.7, and NN6.21. Not a comprehensive
list, I know, but it covers some major bases. The page seems almost
identical in every one of these browsers except NN6 on the Mac, where it
exhibits additional spacing following or within a few of the tables. The
browser gives the same result with a DTD for XHTML 1.0 (both with and
without the URI), and also with a DTD for HTML 4.01 Transitional with
the URI. As HTML 4.01 without the URI it seems fine in all the browsers.
The page is at http://www.designshift.com/index_problem_x.html. The same
page using the DTD for HTML 4.01 and no URI is at
http://www.designshift.com/index.html, where it seems fine so far.

I'm expect there is some little thing I'm missing, but just can't figure
it out.

Ultimately, if I can get this sort of thing to work, I'm hoping to be
able to encourage some of my co-workers to move towards developing pages
with more current standards and validation in mind. And once started
down that road, I can set my sights on cutting down the dependence on
tables. But first things first...

Any suggestions or observations about the problem or the page in general
will be much appreciated.
