[thelist] NS6 (mac) background image quirk

I have a page with a background image (.gif) for the body. As NS6 (on mac)
loads this image, it first displays a heinous black region with vertical
colored bars. When the image fully loads, it replaces this, but while it is
loading, its damn ugly.

anybody ever heard of this? have any ideas about how to make it load more
gracefully?
