Rather than trying to get IE to render your XSLT correctly why don't you
set it up to parse on the server using something like Xalan?

Nice idea but getting anything new installed is a nightmare.  I'm now in
month 3 of waiting for a "technical assessment" on running Illustrator
10 on my PC!  Getting them to install server software would be like
parting the waves...
