Have you tried applying a top / bottom margin to the individual list
items?

Good luck with IE5, from what I've seen it can become a bit fragile when
it comes to styling lists.

Ah - hadn't thought of that!  Well, it works fine in IE6 etc, but I'll
have to wait to go back to work tomorrow to try IE5.  In theory it shoud
work but, as you say, IE5 and styling lists does have some problems...
